Why does my pet need bloodwork?

Pets are pretty good at masking any pain or discomfort they might be feeling. Symptoms of internal issues might also manifest as subtle changes in their behaviour or how they act on a daily basis. An annual wellness blood profile helps us assess your pet’s internal health and detect any diseases early on, which allows us to create a treatment plan earlier and save lives. Since we run samples right at our hospital, you can receive the results in less than 30 minutes.

What will it tell you?

Depending on the type of diagnostic tests we run, a sample of your pet’s blood might reveal different things. The most common blood test we run on furry friends is the Complete Blood Count (CBC). This provides vital information about your pet’s hydration status, anemia, infection, blood clotting ability and the responsiveness of their immune system. If your pet has an upcoming surgery, a CBC also helps us detect any abnormalities or bleeding disorders. If your pet has symptoms like fever, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, pale gums or loss of appetite, we might also recommend it to support our diagnosis. Why does my pet need bloodwork before anesthesia?

If your pet has an upcoming surgery that requires them to go under anesthesia, we screen them for any internal issues that might cause complications. Some of the things we assess are:
