Vaccinations for Puppies and Dogs

Vaccination is an important component of your pet’s healthcare, ensuring their protection against preventable diseases. We recommend a series of core vaccines and discuss your pet’s lifestyles to assess whether other vaccinations like the Lyme vaccines or Bordetella would be a good fit. What vaccinations do you recommend for puppies?

We recommend a few different vaccines for your kittens, starting at 8-weeks-old. The purpose of vaccines is to help stimulate an immune response if your pet comes in contact with an infection. This means they’ll have full immunity against the disease or have less severe symptoms if they’re inflected. Depending on the breed, size and reactivity of your pet, some vaccines might be split up and booster shots will be given later. We will make individual recommendations, keeping your puppy’s health and safety in mind. Vaccines we recommend are:

  • Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus (combined vaccine) – given at 8, 12 and 16-weeks-old
  • Leptospirosis – might be given at 12 and 16 weeks, based on their weight
  • Bordetella – recommended at 16 weeks

    What vaccinations do you recommend for dogs?

  • Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus and Leptospirosis (combined vaccine) – given once a year
  • Bordetella – recommended once a year
  • Rabies – after your dogs first annual vaccine, rabies will be given every 3 years

    What do these vaccinations protect my pet against?

    There vaccines help your pet to build immunity against:

  • Canine Distemper – a fatal, viral disease affecting unvaccinated puppies
  • Canine Parvovirus – a fatal disease affecting the gastrointestinal tract
  • Canine Kennel Cough (Bordetella) – a highly contagious infection causing persistent cough and nasal discharge
  • Infectious Canine Hepatitis – disease causing respiratory and liver complications
  • Rabies – fatal disease attacking the central nervous system
  • Canine Leptospirosis – disease impacting kidney function and may cause kidney failure
